A Word From The Artist

Back in 1947 on Her Royal Highness, Princess Elizabeth’s twenty-first birthday, she made a speech. It was a pledge to serve the Commonwealth for the rest of her days. In Her Royal Highness's words, “I declare before you all, that my whole life whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” I am in awe that at the age of twenty-one years old, that a young lady could have had such insight into the world, and to have promised to serve the Commonwealth for the rest of her days. At the age of ninety-three years old Her Majesty has adhered to her promise over a greater span of the sixty-five years of her reign.  It is in this quote of intention that I have explored in constructing a presence of Her Majesty The Queen, a composited notion of her intention presented in painting.

This body of work is constructed of eight portrait paintings of Her Majesty The Queen ranging from Princess Elizabeth to a more modern take of Her Majesty The Queen.

Each work is oil on unstretched canvas with the dimensions of 60 cm x 90 cm including a white painted border of the canvas so that each painting can be stretched. Each painting is inside the border of white canvas and each border varies in depth (averaging 10 cm.) The canvas has been trimmed tidy and can be hung as is if you don’t mind that kind of look, or for a more professional look, it can be stretched onto a stretcher frame through an art shop.

Any works painted made of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Princess Elizabeth 2019-2020 are collectable pieces of art not only for their formal qualities and subject matter but also because of a secret story behind it. There is a very good reason why Miss Karen Dawn Ferguson loves The Queen and so she should;

Yours Sincerely

Karen Ferguson.
